Excellent fly line Review by kevs

When first inquiring about this line from dealers I received mostly negative comments due to the texture and 'noise' when casting. I made the purchase, 3wt WF, and am very pleased with the results. My casting distance improved 12' to 15'. Line control is much easier to master. I've had less 'twisting/coiling' of the line after long periods of fishing. It cast extremely well with flies from ants to the small crickets and hoppers I make. In 2012 I caught well over 500 gills 8" plus and am on course this year to surpass that number, with no negatives from this line. The higher cost of this line did at first cause me some hesitation from purchasing, but now the quality and performance far outweigh the initial 'sticker shock', and am now looking at purchasing other Sharkskin fly lines for my two 5wt rods.

I own the 5 wt blue heron version of the line. Initially, I resisted buying the line because of the high price, I had been using a 5 wt Mastery Series GPX line and figured it couldn't really be much better than that. Well, as good as the GPX line is for an all around fly line, the Ultimate Trout Sharkskin line is superior.
I have fished dries, double and triple nymph rigs with shot and indicator, and large weighted streamers and the line has perfomed well in all cases. I like the taper of the line up front, and believe this is one of the keys to the lines' versatility, it allows a delicate presentatoin should your casting be up to par, but also allows throwing heavier flies.
It roll casts great, and short and long distance overhand casts are easily made. I believe the textured surface does help shoot line better than a non textured surface. In a direct 'shoot out' with my GPX taper on the same rods, the UT Sharkskin line is just plain easier to cast.
I also have never had an issue with the sharkskin textured surface cutting or abrading my fingers, I have stripped streamers all day long and have never had an issue wth discomfort or injury, even when my hands have been wet all day from landing and releasing fish.
I have used the line for an entire season, and can't speak to the longevity of the over non textured lines, but so far it is holding up fine after many uses. I would definitely buy this line again and can highly recommend it.

I have this on my all-around 4/5 wt. on a Lamson reel and it's easily my favorite set up.

Good distance, but not hard to cast short distance (we have a lot of that around here), mends well, exceeds my expectations everywhere else.

A little spendy, but am planning on putting it on a 7 ft. 3 wt. this spring also.

Great Fly Line Review by Kevo

This line is awesome. It shoots incredibly well, floats really high on the water, and mends like a dream. It's really supple as well. I did notice after a day of fishing that my finger was sore from stripping in the line all day because of the texture. This is a small sacrifice for such a great line. I can't afford this line for every rod, but I highly recommend it for a rod that you use frequently.

Great Line - Review by Pete

Just tried this line for the first time this year. I thought that the high tech 'shark skin texture' was just a gimmic to market the product... but, It is really amazing - all the claims are true. The price is too high to make it practical to string up all my rods. If you have one favorite rod, and you do a lot of trout fishing, it's worth the investment.
